In this third volume of Needlebound (Thread Geographies), we turn our attention to the spaces that textiles occupy and create both literal and metaphorical. Place, in the context of fibre and stitch, is never singular. It exists in the tension between the global and the intimate, in the distance between hand and material, in the threshold where body meets cloth, and increasingly, in the mediated spaces of digital networks. These are not discrete categories but overlapping fields (like warp and weft) where every stitch is simultaneously a local gesture and part of a larger network, where place is something we make with our hands even as our hands are shaped by the places we occupy.

Needlebound Volume 2 arrives in a moment of digital fragility, asking what remains when platforms disappear. As the scaffolding of social media begins to splinter—bans, blackouts, algorithmic drift—fibre artists are left to consider what kinds of knowledge can survive the collapse.
This issue looks to textiles as a medium of continuity: one that holds memory, resists erasure, and builds structures for community outside of institutional or algorithmic systems. It gathers essays, interviews, and artwork that explore how craft sustains meaning across time, and what forms of knowledge remain legible when the platforms that once held them begin to dissolve.

A common thread in the fibre arts community is the shared appreciation for creating something tangible, a piece that can be held and felt in contrast to our screen-dominant lives. Needlebound provides a space where fibre artists can share their stories and perspectives in a place that is not dominated through platform algorithms. It's name is an homage to the 5th century craft of Nålebinding, which was a precursor to knitting and served as a social catalyst, where artisans gathered to create, share stories, and foster community.
